salone del mobile 2015, milan

Two weeks ago, the design world once more made a pilgrimage to the Italian capital of fashion and design, Milan. Unfortunately I couldn’t go, as much as it was on my agenda for this year. The reason is small and black and extremely cute: The newest addition to our family, a 9 weeks old cocker spaniel. Our life has slightly turned upside down with her arrival. It feels like having a new baby but without the pregnancy that sort of prepares you for its arrival. Thankfully, the puppy slept through after two nights (even without Gina Ford) and is on a good way of being house trained. But she still kept me quite busy, hence the radio silence.

Back to Salone del Mobile. I was forced to look and admire and envy from a distance which was…(ever so slightly) tough. But thanks to the internet and social media I managed to overcome my agony. So let me share a few impressions and some of my favourite new products.

Artek – Kaari collection

A collaboration between the Finish design company and Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec.

My Dutch design heroes, bold and exciting as always. Oh, how I would have loved to have stroll through those halls…

Diesel Living

The “Shortwave” dining chairs are gorgeous, and so are the “Pipe” floor lamps.

I am sure our son would appreciate this astronaut vase (Cosmic collection) as a centrepiece for his upcoming space birthday party….

Ceramic collection in collaboration with Seletti. I love – love – love the candle holders.

Patricia Urquiola for B&B Italia – Butterfly outdoor sofa

I would feel terribly sorry for leaving this piece of art exposed to the English weather. But I am sure I would love every minute sitting on it. (I will write more about extending the interior space out in the coming weeks.)

Normann Copenhagen – Bell lamp.

The Salone del Mobile 2016 (12 – 17 April) is already in my diary and a wonderful excuse to spend a couple of days in Italy. I will (of course) leave the husband at home and in charge of the children (and the puppy)…
